Jewelry Care Guide
We believe jewelry should be worn and cherished every day. However, it’s important to remember that each piece is delicately crafted using precious metals and gems. With proper care, your jewelry can maintain its brilliance for years to come.
1. “First Off, Last On”
Follow this simple rule: jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.
- Last on: Put on your jewelry after finishing your grooming routine—clothing, makeup, nails, hair, and perfume. Many beauty products contain chemicals that may damage your setting or stones.
- First off: Always remove your jewelry before undressing or removing makeup to avoid snagging or bending delicate parts.
2. During Workouts
Always remove jewelry before any physical activity, including workouts, yoga, dancing, or lifting heavy objects. Excess movement and pressure can bend prongs or loosen stones.
3. While Sleeping
Remove all jewelry before bed. Movement during sleep can cause prongs to snag on sheets or blankets, leading to potential damage or loosening of stones.
4. Avoiding Harsh Chemicals
Keep your jewelry away from chlorine, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. These substances can weaken metal alloys and damage both the setting and the stones. Be cautious with everyday items like nail polish remover, perfume, and hairspray as well.
5. During Self-Care Routines
To preserve the clarity and shine of your center stone, remove your ring before:
- Washing your hands
- Showering
- Applying lotion
- Using hair products
These products can leave residue that builds up over time, causing the stone to appear cloudy and dull.
6. Cooking and Gardening
Take off your ring when cooking (especially when using your hands to prepare food) or doing yardwork. Particles can become trapped in the setting or scratch the surface of the metal and stones.
Cleaning Tips
If your stone becomes cloudy, follow these simple cleaning steps:
- Polish gently using a lint-free, 100% cotton cloth.
- Soak in warm water with a few drops of dish soap for 30 minutes. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean, especially underneath the stone. Avoid vigorous brushing to prevent loosening the setting.
- Always check that the stone is securely set before and after cleaning, especially when using a steam cleaner.
- Important: Never use an ultrasonic cleaner on micro-pavé settings or emeralds, as they can be easily damaged.
